Portfolio
Welcome! I’m Tayler Hill — editor, writer, and publishing professional with hands-on experience in editorial and marketing roles. Below is a selection of my editorial and publishing experience across publishing houses, literary agencies, independent presses, and freelance projects.
Publishing Experience
2020-2024
Bachelor's of Creative Writing and Publishing
I completed the Honours Bachelor of Creative Writing and Publishing at Sheridan College, a four-year degree that integrates advanced creative writing with professional editorial and publishing training. The program emphasized writing across genres, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and digital media, while developing strong editorial skills such as structural editing, copyediting, proofreading, and manuscript evaluation.
Through workshops and publishing-focused coursework, I gained hands-on experience with editorial workflows, style guides, content development, and collaborative production environments. Working closely with faculty who are published writers and industry professionals, I learned to balance creative vision with clarity, audience awareness, and editorial standards. This program prepared me to contribute thoughtfully to the publishing world.
2024-Present
Editor — Fflat Books
At Fflat Books, I conceptualized, edited, and managed the production of an anthology from submission to publication. This included coordinating author communications, evaluating and selecting pieces, and providing developmental and line edits to prepare manuscripts for print and digital release. I oversaw all intermediary editorial and production steps, including manuscript organization, metadata preparation, and ISBN registration, ensuring a smooth and accurate publishing workflow.
In addition to editorial leadership, I supported administrative coordination, order fulfillment, and social media content creation, while maintaining production databases in Airtable to track progress across projects. This role strengthened my ability to manage complex editorial timelines while balancing creative vision with production and operational requirements.
February-April 2025
Editorial Intern — Inimitable Books
At Inimitable Books, I provided developmental and copy editing for fantasy and romance manuscripts, editing for clarity, voice, structure, and consistency in accordance with the publisher’s style guides. I worked closely to refine manuscripts while preserving authorial intent and narrative integrity.
September-December 2023
Literary Agent Intern — The Purcell Agency
As a literary agent intern, I evaluated query letters and full manuscripts for representation consideration, assessing market potential, narrative strength, and authorial voice across multiple genres. I prepared detailed reader reports and provided editorial feedback to agents and authors, supporting revision and submission strategies. I also assisted with submissions, client management, pitching, and the preparation of promotional materials, gaining hands-on experience with the agenting process from slush evaluation through to author advocacy and market positioning.
2023-Present
Marketing Manager— At Home Author
At At Home Author, I created and managed content for Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to grow audience engagement and brand visibility. I developed keyword-optimized blog posts and implemented SEO strategies, including metadata creation and on-page optimization, to increase discoverability and reach.
I oversaw social media caption writing, scheduling, and performance analytics to ensure consistent messaging and sustained audience growth. In addition, I designed and executed marketing campaigns, email newsletters, and social media calendars aligned with broader creative and business objectives, strengthening my ability to connect editorial content with strategic promotion.

A Bit About Me
Tayler Hill | Editor • Publishing Assistant • Plot Hole Assassin
Hi, I’m Tayler Hill — editor, publishing assistant, author, and full-time book lover based in Toronto. I help writers turn their drafts into the best versions of themselves. With hands-on experience across the publishing pipeline, from the slush pile to the shelf, I bring an editorial eye shaped by both indie presses and agency insights.
My editorial background includes working with publishing houses such as Inimitable Books and Rising Action Publishing Collective, as well as running my own editing business, where I support authors at every stage from developmental editing to final polish, query to launch. I specialize in Adult romance and fantasy and Young Adult fiction, and I’ve had the pleasure of working on everything from heart-wrenching contemporary novels to bold, voice-driven sci-fi.
I hold a double degree in Creative Writing and Publishing, and I’ve also worked behind the scenes at literary agencies, gaining a sharp understanding of what agents and acquiring editors are actually looking for. That combination of creativity and market-savvy makes me a strong editorial partner for both publishers and authors alike.
My approach is collaborative, voice-first, and always tailored to the writer’s vision. I edit with care, precision, and a focus on bringing out the heart of each story because I know how much of a writer’s soul lives on the page. Whether I’m offering big-picture edits or detailed line edits, my goal is always the same: to help powerful stories find their best form.
I’m especially passionate about championing diverse, debut, and underrepresented authors, and I believe that every writer deserves an editor who’s not only skilled but also deeply invested in their success.
If you're looking for someone who brings care, clarity, and creative insight to every manuscript and who truly loves this work, let’s connect.
What Am I Looking For?
No matter the genre, working on someone's book is always a privilege. I have experience working across genres and always welcome the excitement of editing a new book! With that being said, their are certain books/genres that hold a special place in my heart:
-
Romantasy (strong characters that challenge the norms while still having that escapism and hope readers look for)
-
Dark Academia
-
Romance that makes me kick my feet and giggle (think 90s rom-coms)
-
Witchy (think Practical Magic)
-
Spicy (but with a strong story)
-
Cozy reads (think Autumn, coffee, and a cozy sweater vibes)
